Assignments and cooperation

National and international collaborations are an important aspect of our activities. We participate in expert groups, and contribute to conferences and advisory bodies in Sweden and the rest of Europe in order to reinforce the importance of gender in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

We have over twenty years of experience of working in the field of knowledge and research in gender studies and gender equality, in Sweden as well as abroad. This has involved us in Swedish, Nordic and European collaborations and networks related to research and education, and also related to the communication of research results and to policy issues.

In collaboration with gender studies research environments, we organise and host the g-conferences, Sweden’s biggest national conference on gender research. Read more about g-conferences.

Within the University of Gothenburg, we cooperate with KvinnSam - National Resource Library for Gender Studies, with which we operate the databases GENA, which collects gender studies dissertations in Sweden, and GREDA, the Gender Research Database. Through a Nordic network linked to NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender, we also manage the collaborations with GenderKalendern, GenderFund and GenderJob.

A selection of current assignments and projects:

NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender

Pursuant to a decision by the Nordic ministers for gender equality, NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender has been placed as a coordinating body at the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research at the University of Gothenburg. The period for this task runs from October 2012 to 2022.

NIKK’s task is in two parts. NIKK has a very broad knowledge and communication task, and also acts as a project secretariat.

NIKK compiles and communicates research results, policies, knowledge and practice in the area of gender equality from a comparative Nordic perspective.

NIKK has a role in making Nordic collaboration on gender equality policy more visible, supporting the Nordic Council of Ministers by providing communication channels, ideas and materials, and by managing the gender equality fund of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Gender-equal research funding in the EU

Genderaction is an EU funded project aimed at integrating gender equality into research funding in a number of EU countries. We are part of this project’s reference group in order to help connect guidelines with practice.

Advocacy platform to boost Sweden’s impact in SwafS

We participate in Science with and for Society (SwafS), an advocacy platform which aims to promote the inclusion of the gender dimension in Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The platform also aims to assist Swedish actors in applying for research funding for their projects.

Glossary for Wikipedia

Previously on gender.se, we offered a variety of popular science materials on gender research and gender studies. One example was a glossary with definitions of terms and concepts in gender studies. During the spring of 2019, all of these terms and concepts have instead been added to Wikipedia.

Terms and concepts within the scholarly context of gender studies and in other contexts where they are used and discussed in the society at large are constantly being renegotiated.

By publishing them on Wikipedia, we hope that texts continously will be updated by researchers and others who work with issues relating to gender. This will hopefully keep these terms and concepts up to date and make visible different understandings, conflicts and ways of using these terms and concepts.
